How does VIP approach college counseling?

College counseling at VIPHS is all encompassing, and focuses on the college awareness, exploration, and application process.

While advisory lesson target college awareness in ninth and tenth grade, the process begins in earnest during junior year. Juniors read selections from “Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges,” in order to expand their horizons, research the various components of the college application process, and begin their college counseling appointments in the spring.

During senior year, families receive personalized attention and guidance through all stages of the college application process, including financial aid.

The Role of Naviance

Naviance is the platform we use to monitor all stages of our students’ credit accumulation and college exploration/application process.

Student research colleges, keep track of college visits, request letters of recommendation, and monitor their high school four-year plan.

In 2019, Naviance selected VIP as a “Naviance Success Story” and featured us in some marketing materials. Check out the video!
