Prospective Students
VIPHS holds info sessions for prospective families approximately every two weeks – check the calendar to find out the date and time of our next info session for prospective families.
During these info sessions, the Principal or other school representative gives a formal overview of the program, a brief tour of the campus if possible, and time for Q&A. We still have space left, so, these presentations are suitable for both eighth-grade families and families of current high schoolers.
Once the school year starts, we don’t set specific times for daytime tours – families can just email info@viphs.org and arrange for a time that is most convenient for them!
At Valley International Preparatory High School (VIP), a free public charter high school authorized by LAUSD, we believe that “progressive” and “rigorous” are not mutually exclusive when it comes to education. The teachers, administrators and most students at VIP comprise a school community that started five years ago, producing national-level speech and debate championships (was named a 2018 Top 10 program in the nation), 2018 Los Angeles County Mock Trial team championship, “Get Lit” poetry team championships for two years’ running, and popular and unique contemporary music and theatre programs. Its past four graduating classes are now attending colleges such as; Columbia, Yale, Wellesley, Georgetown, UC Berkeley, Dartmouth, Brown, UCLA, University of Chicago, Bryn Mawr, and many more.
VIP’s mission is to prepare students for college through a combination of engaging yet challenging courses and learning experiences designed by a staff of talented and award-winning educators. Add to this mix small class sizes, AP offerings, advisory periods, many innovative electives, an extensive college counseling process that focuses on “right fit” for every student, and a school culture that fosters and values self-reflection, self-expression, and self-actualization… and you have VIP!
VIPHS’ Educational Model is called the Four Keys to College and Career Readiness. Based on the research of Dr. David Conley, our balanced and holistic approach to school design ensures that every student is prepared for success in and admissions to a four year institution of their choice. The phrase “Think, Know, Act, Go,” sums up the four components of the model. Click the button below to learn more!
We recognize and embrace the individuality of every student and family, and believe that all children can learn, given the right conditions and requisite level of collaboration and interaction. Learning best occurs in a collegial atmosphere in a small learning community – with teachers and students as partners in education. We believe that at VIPHS, students who are known well, know well.
From the humanities to STEM to the arts, our classes and programs are rigorous, engaging, and set students up for success in any four year institution they choose to attend and allow students to explore a variety of disciplines from unique perspectives.
