College. Communication. Culture.

These three words define the experience at VIP High School. From the beginning, students are exposed to a college-preparatory environment that gets them excited about the many opportunities that they can have after high school. Our graduates have gone on to four-year colleges and universities in more than two dozen states, Canada, and Europe. Our small class sizes, discussion-based and engaging teaching, and various elective offerings teach students to become effective communicators in a variety of formats for a variety of purposes. Finally, our small-school environment and passionate staff deliver a personalized experience that only a small-school environment can provide. College, communication, culture… it’s what we do.

“Right college fit” for all

The student to counselor ratio in California is over 500:1, and more often than not, counselors are asked to be academic, social-emotional, and college counselors, resulting in an assembly-line experience for most students with what is probably the most important decision of their young lives: where to go to college. Conversely, VIP’s college counseling and advisory program optimally prepares and supports each one of its students for higher-education choice, completion, and success…no matter what socio-economic, cultural, socio/emotional and/or learning challenges may exist.

The Four Keys

VIP’s educational model is based on the work of researcher David Conley and his “Four Keys to College Readiness.” By focusing on four different areas of a students academic, social, and emotional development, we produce well-rounded students ready to succeed in whatever four-year institution they choose to attend.

“The students at VIP are kids who were looking for a more meaningful experience and weren’t finding it elsewhere. The teachers are more like mentors than just disseminators of information. There is a substantive level of discourse happening here, and that is really refreshing.
